Château Clerc-Milon

Clerc-Milon is one of the five Premiers Crus of the Pauillac appellation – and demonstrates why the Médoc has been considered the benchmark for Bordeaux red wines for centuries. This Fifth Grand Cru Classé, dating back to 1855, lies directly adjacent to Mouton Rothschild and Lafite, a fact clearly reflected in its soil and character.

Château Clerc-Milon has been owned by the Rothschild family (Baron Philippe) since 1970. The 41 hectares of vineyards, situated on gravelly soils, are cultivated with great care. The blend is a classic combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc – vinified with the aim of combining depth and elegance, not just power.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers blackcurrant and violet, along with licorice, mint, and a subtle hint of spice. On the palate, generous, silky tannins are followed by notes of pepper and dark chocolate. The finish is long and balanced – neither too heavy nor too light.

Serving suggestion: Decanting recommended (at least 45 minutes). Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2032+. Pairs well with herb-crusted lamb loin, beef fillet, or aged Cheddar.
