Château Clerc-Milon

Clerc-Milon is one of the five Premiers Crus of the Pauillac appellation – and shows why the Médoc has been considered the benchmark for Bordeaux red wines for centuries. This Fifth Grand Cru Classé of 1855 is located directly adjacent to Mouton Rothschild and Lafite, which is clearly reflected in its soil and character.

Château Clerc-Milon has belonged to the Rothschild family (Baron Philippe) since 1970. The 41 hectares of vineyards on gravelly soils are cultivated with great care. The cuvée classically consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc – vinified with the goal of combining depth and elegance, not just power.

In the glass, it shows a dense ruby red. On the nose, blackcurrant and violets, plus licorice, mint, and a fine spice tone. On the palate, generous, silky tannins, underneath pepper and dark chocolate. The finish is long and balanced – neither too massive nor too slender.

Serving recommendation: Decanting recommended (at least 45 minutes). Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with rack of lamb with herb crust, beef fillet, or mature cheddar.
