Chardonnay Buitenverwachting

A full-bodied Chardonnay from the Western Cape that combines power and elegance. It comes from Buitenverwachting, one of the traditional wineries at the foot of Table Mountain near Constantia — a region known for its cool, maritime climate, which gives white wines like this one freshness and tension.

In the glass, it reveals clear citrus fruit, underpinned by flint in the bouquet and mineral tones on the palate. The mouthfeel is dense yet balanced, the acidity provides structure, and the finish is long and salty-mineral.

Serve the Chardonnay at 10 to 12 degrees and pair it with grilled fish, veal in a light sauce, or aged hard cheese. It also makes a great impression on its own as an evening aperitif — a wine for those who appreciate dry white wines with character and a sense of origin.

The Winery

Buitenverwachting

Buitenverwachting is Constantia's white wine legend at the Cape of Good Hope. "Beyond all expectations" – that is the translation of the name of this special winery from Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine-growing region.

The family winery, which has existed for over 250 years, is located just 10 km south of Cape Town and benefits from a unique location between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. On the world's oldest granite soils, internationally awarded wines are created here under the German management of Lars Maack.

The Sauvignon Blanc in particular belongs to the South African top class.
