Buitenverwachting

Constantia's legendary white wine estate at the Cape of Good Hope: "Beyond all expectations" – that's how the name of this special winery in Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine-growing region, translates. The family-run estate, which has existed for over 250 years, is located just 10 km south of Cape Town and benefits from a unique location between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. On some of the world's oldest granite soils, internationally acclaimed wines are produced here under the German management of Lars Maack. The Sauvignon Blanc, in particular, is among South Africa's finest.

Buitenverwachting –
Constantia's white wine address for 250 years

Buitenverwachting lies in the heart of Constantia , South Africa's oldest wine-growing region, just ten kilometers south of Cape Town. The name roughly translates to "beyond all expectations"—a promise the winery has been fulfilling for over 250 years. Its location between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans creates an exceptionally cool microclimate, rare at this latitude: maritime winds, high humidity, and long ripening periods shape the character of the wines.

The soils are among the oldest weathered granite soils in the world – a geological peculiarity that lends the wines a mineral depth more commonly found in Burgundy or the Loire. Under the direction of Lars Maack, the focus here is clearly on precision and expression of terroir. The Sauvignon Blanc is considered one of South Africa's best: crisp, aromatically complex, with a freshness that owes itself to the cool terroir.

Those who drink Buitenverwachting wines get a sense of what the Cape can achieve when location, history, and craftsmanship come together. Ideal with seafood, grilled fish, or a mature goat cheese.
