Cape wines with history and attitude
Klein Constantia is one of the oldest and most famous wineries in South Africa. Its history dates back to the 17th century, when Jan van Riebeeck brought the first vines to the Cape. The estate is located in the valley of Constantia, south of Cape Town, where cool sea breezes from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans moderate the temperatures – one of the few locations in South Africa where elegance and freshness take precedence over power.
In the vineyard, the team works with minimal intervention: careful hand-harvesting, gentle pressing, targeted aging. No tricks, no over-processing – the goal is to bring the terroir of granitic and sandy soils directly into the glass. The wines show a minerality and structure unusual for the Cape, which also makes them capable of development over several years.
Klein Constantia is a member of the WWF Conservation Programme and manages the estate according to strict environmental regulations: biodiversity, water management, and natural cultivation methods are an integral part of the work in the vineyard.
