Chardonnay
A Chardonnay that shows what Germany's northernmost wine-growing region can achieve: clear, dry, with an acid structure that gives the Burgundy classic its own unique character.
Proppe Winery cultivates vineyards in the Saale-Unstrut region – one of the coldest winegrowing areas in Germany, where limestone and variegated sandstone characterize the soils. Short, intense summers produce grapes with naturally high acidity and concentrated aromas, without alcohol or oak dominating. The 2023 Chardonnay comes from several vineyard sites and unites their diverse characteristics in a cohesive, harmonious wine.
On the nose, green apple, ripe pear, and a hint of white blossoms – elderflower and acacia blossom linger softly in the background. On the palate, the wine is lean and lively: the acidity is present but not sharp, the texture fine and almost creamy, without any oak aging masking the fruit. The finish is clean, medium-long, with a mineral aftertaste reminiscent of the limestone bedrock.
