Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg Edition Johanniskreuz Riesling

Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg Edition Johanniskreuz Riesling
A Riesling with real bite: cool, taut, with a mineral tension that carries the palate into a long finish.
Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg is located in the southern part of the Palatinate, where the red sandstone soil of the Johanniskreuz site gives the wines an unmistakable texture. Riesling from this corner of the Palatinate is rarely as well-known as the great sites on the German Wine Route further north — unjustly so. The cooler hillside sites provide wines with more nervousness and depth than many of the more popular addresses.
In the glass, the Johanniskreuz Riesling shows candied citrus fruit and ripe pome fruit, underscored by a hint of chocolate and caramel, which indicates moderate maturity. On the palate, the contrast: lively acidity, firm body, a salty minerality that keeps the wine taut and lets the finale fade out long and fresh.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Goes well with zander with butter sauce, tarte flambée with crème fraîche, or a mature mountain cheese.
