Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg Edition Johanniskreuz Riesling

A Riesling with real bite: cool, taut, with a mineral tension that carries the palate through to the long finish.

Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg lies in the southern part of the Palatinate, where the red sandstone soil of the Johanniskreuz vineyard gives the wines a distinctive texture. Riesling from this corner of the Palatinate is rarely as well-known as the great vineyards along the German Wine Route further north—unjustly so. The cooler slopes produce wines with more vibrancy and depth than many of the more popular wine-growing regions.

In the glass, the Johanniskreuz Riesling displays candied citrus fruit and ripe stone fruit, underpinned by a hint of chocolate and caramel, suggesting moderate ripeness. On the palate, however, there is a contrast: lively acidity, firm body, and a salty minerality that keeps the wine taut and allows the finish to be long and fresh.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Drinking window: now until 2028. Pairs well with pike-perch with butter sauce, tarte flambée with crème fraîche or a mature mountain cheese.
