Ravensburg Castle Dicker Franz Blaufränkisch Grosse Lage

The Dicker Franz Blaufränkisch Grosse Lage from Burg Ravensburg is a red wine for those seeking depth, character, and a good story in their glass. Named after Baron Franz Göler von Ravensburg (1701–1765), a passionate bon vivant who went down in family history, this wine bears his name with dignity.

The Grand Cru vineyard "Dicker Franz" comprises 7.5 hectares on the Burgberg hill and is spread across two slopes. The southwestern section—with its higher site quality—is reserved for Lemberger (Blaufränkisch). The soil, composed of gypsum-keuper , formed in the Triassic period around 250 to 210 million years ago, is barren, very calcareous, and retains heat well. It is precisely this mineral sparseness that drives the vines deep, giving the wine concentration and a distinctive structure.

In the glass, it displays a deep blue-red color with a dense aroma of black fruits: black cherry, cassis, and elderberry, underpinned by roasted notes of coffee and cocoa. On the palate, it is powerful and full-bodied, with a hint of chocolate, rich tannins, and a long finish. Falstaff and Vinum awarded the 2017 vintage 93 and 91 points , respectively.
