Barolo 'Via Nuova' DOCG - Organic

A Barolo with Nebbiolo character and fine structure: The 'Via Nuova' from Piedmont combines spice and fruit with an elegance one does not always expect from Barolo. Dry, organic certified.

Behind the wine is Chiara Boschis, who set standards as one of the first women in Barolo. Her family has been producing wine for eight generations; in 1981, she acquired the approximately 400-year-old estate with 2.5 hectares of vineyards, including shares in the Cannubi vineyard. As the only woman among winemakers like Altare, Clerico, Rivetti, Sandrone, and Scavino, she helped shape the modern Barolo style and earned the nickname "Barolo Girl." Her first barrique-aged Barolo immediately received three glasses in the Gambero Rosso in 1990. Around 10,000 bottles are produced by hand annually: she prunes the vines, harvests, and moves the barriques in the cellar herself.

In the glass, Mediterranean herbs like thyme and rosemary appear, along with sloe, sandalwood, brittle, and roasted almond. Acidity and tannins are in good balance; the style is fine rather than massive. Pairs with braised beef, tajarin with white truffle, or aged Parmigiano. Decant beforehand and serve at 16–18 °C.
