Barolo Bussia DOCG 2021

The Bussia is considered one of the great sites of Barolo — a natural amphitheater near Monforte d'Alba with a southern exposure that brings Nebbiolo grapes to full ripeness at up to 400 meters altitude. Tre Pile cultivates vineyards here in the middle of this legendary MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva), a classification that identifies the best single sites of the Barolo area similar to a Burgundian Cru.

In the glass, the 2021 shows a brilliant ruby red with orange reflections — a typical sign of maturing Nebbiolo. On the nose, ripe sour cherry and dark berry fruits, plus dried rose petals, fresh tobacco, and a hint of leather. On the palate, powerful but not heavy: fine-grained tannin, a lively, crisp acidity, and a juicy fruit that gives the wine accessibility despite its structure. The finish is long and spicy.

It is best to serve it at 17–18 °C, preferably with a decanter. Classically, it pairs with Brasato al Barolo or a slowly braised leg of lamb — but a hearty entrecôte from the grill is also a very good choice.
