B-48 GG Spätburgunder Heimersheimer Landskrone QW Ahr

The B-48 is the Grosses Gewächs Spätburgunder from the Nelles winery from the Heimersheimer Landskrone site: a dry red wine with clear fruit, spicy depth and a taut structure.

The Landskrone is located on the Ahr, one of Germany's most famous growing regions for Spätburgunder. The grapes come from the best parcels of the site, and the wine is aged for at least 12 months in barrique. The winery is run by the Nelles family.

The nose reveals red currants, wild strawberries and sour cherries, plus fine spice of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom. On the palate, the wine feels powerful and well-structured, carried by ripe, integrated tannins. The finish is long.

Recommendation: Decant the wine briefly and serve it at 16 to 18 °C. It goes well with duck breast, braised veal cheeks or fried venison saddle, as well as with aged mountain cheese.

The Nelles winery is one of the addresses in the German wine landscape that you should know. Craftsmanship, a clear sense for terroir, and wines that show character without being loud – that is the style that distinguishes the bottles from this house. Whether in the cellar or in the vineyard: work is done here with conviction, not by the book.
