Angostura Aromatic Bitters
Angostura Aromatic Bitters is one of those products that should be in every well-stocked home bar – and every professional kitchen. Anyone who understands what a few drops of this concentrated herbal essence can do in a drink will keep reaching for the distinctive yellow bottle with its oversized label.
The recipe originates from Trinidad and is based on a secret that has been guarded for almost two centuries. What is known: cloves, bitter orange, cinnamon, cardamom, gentian root, and cinchona bark play a central role. The result is a deep, aromatic concentrate – tart, spicy, slightly ethereal, and unmistakably complex.
Angostura bitters are used drop by drop, not by the liter. Just two or three drops are enough to give a cocktail or dish a completely new depth. Classic uses:
- Cocktails: Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Pink Gin – unthinkable without Angostura bitters
- Long drinks: A splash in a whisky soda or a champagne cocktail elevates the aroma to another level.
- Culinary uses: Marinades, sauces, and desserts benefit from the characteristic bitter note.
