2nd Pez second wine Château de Pez 0.75L
The 2nd Pez is the second wine of Château de Pez – a classic Saint-Estèphe that bears the signature of the Grand Cru, but is accessible earlier. Anyone who knows the appellation knows what that means: structure, depth, and an unmistakably cool elegance.
Château de Pez is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Estèphe, an appellation in the northern Médoc known for its clayey soils and powerful red wines. The wines here are naturally denser and more tannic than their neighbors in Pauillac or Margaux – characterized by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on heavy subsoil with high water retention. The house's second wine draws from the same sources but comes into the glass with less weight and more directness.
On the nose, it shows dark cassis and blackberry, underpinned by a hint of graphite and fine herb notes – typical for the cool, North Atlantic-influenced appellation. On the palate, dry, medium-dense tannins, an invigorating acidity, and a straightforward, clean finish without opulence.
Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Good with lamb loin with rosemary, beef fillet, or a strong hard cheese like Cantal. Those looking for the classic Bordeaux style without a large budget are in the right place here.
