1787 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 0.75L

The 1787 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG from Rocca delle Macìe shows what the hills around Montepulciano can get out of Sangiovese and Canaiolo: a structured red wine with a Tuscan backbone and velvety ripeness.

Rocca delle Macìe is a family-run winery from Tuscany that has been producing wines in classic DOC and DOCG vineyards since the 1970s. The 1787 bears the name as a reference to the historical significance of the Vino Nobile — one of the oldest DOC wines in Italy, which was already appreciated at European courts in the 18th century. The grapes come from selected vineyards in Montepulciano and are fermented on the skins for around twelve days.

In the glass, a deep ruby red appears. On the nose, blackberry, cherry, and dried herbs, plus a hint of tobacco and dark earth. Medium to full body on the palate, ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a long, slightly spicy finish — typical for a well-made Nobile.

Goes well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, game ragù, or aged Pecorino. Drinking temperature 16–18 °C.
