Schug Carneros Estate Winery

Schug Carneros Estate Winery was founded in 1980 by pioneering winemaker Walter Schug, who previously crafted the legendary 'Insignia' at Joseph Phelps. Today, the family-owned winery is managed by the second generation of the Schug family. Combining over a century of German winemaking heritage with the distinct cool-climate terroir of the Carneros region in Sonoma County, the winery is celebrated for producing elegant, European-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Schug Carneros Estate —
German-Californian handwriting from Sonoma

In 1980, Walter Schug brought his German winemaking tradition to the cool Carneros climate of Sonoma County. The result was Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with European finesse: precise, age-worthy, and light. Today, the second generation continues to run the family winery—with the same commitment to terroir and craftsmanship.
