Schengen

Schengen – the name stands for a borderless Europe, but also for exquisite wines in the border region of Germany, France and Luxembourg. The idyllic vineyards on the slopes of the Upper Moselle benefit from a special microclimate and mineral-rich soils of shell limestone and Keuper marl. Here, mainly Burgundy varieties, Riesling and Auxerrois are grown into characterful wines. What's special is that the climate and soil are the same on all three sides of the border – the European spirit is literally in the wine. Winemakers like Henri Ruppert produce award-winning wines here, including delicately sparkling Crémants that combine German and French grape varieties – practically the finest wines the Schengen Area has to offer.
