Elgin was long known for its apple orchards – but resourceful winemakers discovered the enormous potential of this cool region for top-quality wines. The lower temperatures, frequent fog, and fertile soils create ideal conditions for elegant Pinot Noirs, vibrant Sauvignon Blancs, and crisp Chardonnays. Here, wines with a European style and a South African soul are produced.

What's particularly interesting is that many wineries focus on sustainable and biodynamic farming. The winemakers here work with respect for nature and use the cool climate to produce slowly ripening grapes with complex aromas and vibrant freshness.
