Chateau Smith Haut Lafite

Château Smith Haut Lafitte – a name that stands for wines in the Graves region south of Bordeaux that make their origin palpable.

The 87-hectare vineyard lies like a green island amidst forests and hedgerows. The typical pebbles of the Graves region – the so-called Graves Gunziennes – store the sun's warmth and give the wines their unmistakable character: the white wines subtly smoky, the red wines smooth and complex.

The Cathiard family works here according to a clear conviction: respect for nature is not a trend, but a fundamental principle. They have their own vine nursery, horse-drawn plow, compost from the vineyard – and beehives to maintain the balance.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte –
Graves terroir with a pebbly character

Château Smith Haut Lafitte lies on 87 hectares south of Bordeaux, nestled among woods and hedgerows – a tranquil enclave in the heart of the Graves region . The soil, composed of Graves Gunziennes, the region's typical pebbles, retains the sun's warmth and directly influences the wines: the white wines exhibit a subtle smokiness, while the red wines are smooth with a fine depth.

The Cathiard family took over the winery in 1990 and have consistently focused on manual labor and respect for nature. Their own vine nursery supplies healthy planting material from the estate itself, horse-drawn plowing and composting replace chemical interventions, and beehives on the property ensure ecological balance. Not a trend, but a lived conviction for over three decades.

The result is wines that don't hide their origin: mineral, precise, with the unmistakable fingerprint of Graves. Whether the classic red or the aromatically complex white – both reflect what this terroir is capable of producing.
