Château Haut Bages Liberal

Château Haut-Bages Libéral lies in the heart of Pauillac – one of the great estates of the Médoc. What makes this estate so special? A limestone content in the soil, which imparts a cool minerality to the wine that is so rarely found in Pauillac.

Power and elegance combined – this is not a contradiction, but rather the promise of Haut-Bages Libéral. The wines combine the structure of classic Pauillac with a fine, almost delicate texture. Deep, complex, yet approachable.

Château Haut-Bages Libéral —
Minerality and structure from the heart of Pauillac

Château Haut-Bages Libéral lies in the heart of Pauillac , an appellation renowned for its power and tannic structure. What distinguishes this Fifth Growth from its neighbors lies literally in the soil: an unusually high limestone content imparts a cool, almost salty minerality rarely found in Pauillac.

The wines follow the classic Médoc profile—dark fruit, firm tannins, long finish—but the texture is finer, almost more delicate than expected. No heaviness for its own sake, but rather depth with approachability. This makes the bottles from Haut-Bages Libéral interesting both for cellaring and for early enjoyment.

Today, the estate belongs to Lurton Estates, which carefully and faithfully continues the winery's traditions. In the glass: cassis, cedar, a hint of graphite. Recommended pairings: rack of lamb, mature Cantal, or a robust roast beef.
