Château Calon-Ségur literally wears its heart on its label – and has done so for centuries. The iconic heart adorning the bottle of this Grand Cru from Saint-Estèphe is not a marketing ploy, but a genuine declaration: The Marquis de Ségur is said to have once remarked that although he made wine in Lafite and Latour, his heart belonged to Calon.

This is still evident today. The wines of this exceptional Bordeaux estate combine power and elegance in a way that is unparalleled among the Médoc classifications – deeply fruity, complex, and with a longevity that rewards patience.

Château Calon-Ségur —
the heart of Saint-Estèphe

Château Calon-Ségur is located in the northernmost tip of the Médoc, in the Saint-Estèphe appellation — and literally wears its heart on its label. The Marquis de Ségur, who owned both Lafite and Latour in the 18th century, is said to have said: his heart belonged to Calon. This confession is still visible on every bottle today and is not a marketing addition, but a piece of lived estate history.

The wines of Calon-Ségur show what distinguishes Saint-Estèphe from its southern neighbors: more structure, more depth, a tannin framework that needs time and rewards it. Typical are dark fruit — blackberry, cassis — embedded in an earthy, almost mineral texture that gains complexity with years in the cellar. Drinking windows for current vintages usually only begin after a decade.

Since the takeover by the Suravenir Group in 2012, the cellar and vineyard work have been fundamentally modernized without compromising the classic character of the estate. Those who see Bordeaux not as a quick pleasure, but as a promise for the future, will find a reliable companion in Calon-Ségur.
