Charles Heidsieck founded his house in 1851 in Reims – at 29 years old, with a flair for quality and the will to go his own way. What distinguished him from his contemporaries: he traveled himself, built relationships, and personally brought his champagne into the world. This entrepreneurial spirit is still palpable in every glass today.
Since 2011, the Descours family has led the house – with respect for its long history and a clear claim not to dilute the style. The cuvées age significantly longer on the lees than legally required, which gives them a creamy texture, brioche notes, and a depth that many Grandes Marques do not reach.
The result is champagnes that do not want to please on the first sip, but convince on the second: complex, with drive, yet never heavy. Whether for dinner with scallops and brown butter or as an accompaniment to aged Comté – Charles Heidsieck is a champagne for the table and conversation.
