Casa Gran del Siurana

Casa Gran del Siurana lies in the heart of the Catalan DOQ Priorat – one of Spain's most exciting wine regions, where barren schist soils ( Llicorella ) and Mediterranean sun produce wines of impressive depth. Here, among old Garnacha and Cariñena vines, wines are created that reflect their rugged, mineral origins unfiltered. Powerful, honest, and distinctive.

Casa Gran del Siurana –
Slate, sun, and old vines in Priorat
Casa Gran del Siurana is located in the middle of the Catalan Priorat, one of Spain's most uncompromising wine regions. The soils here consist almost exclusively of Llicorella – a mixture of slate and quartzite that hardly holds water and forces the vines to root deep into the rock. What sounds barren is in truth the foundation for wines with unusual minerality and density.
The focus is on old Garnacha and Cariñena vines, whose yields are low, but whose aroma spectrum is all the more concentrated: dark berries, dried herbs, an earthy undertone that reminds one of the slate from which the wines literally grow. The Mediterranean sun of the Ebro hinterland provides ripeness and structure without taking away the freshness.
The wines from Casa Gran del Siurana are not light companions – they demand attention and time in the glass. In return, they reward you with a depth that one constantly seeks in the Priorat and rarely finds so directly. Good with braised lamb, game dishes, or strong hard cheese from the region.
