Durbach, Baden: Craftsmanship between Riesling and Pinot Noir
Andreas Laible cultivates his vineyards in Durbach, one of the most renowned wine villages in the Ortenau district at the foot of the Black Forest. The steep slopes around the village provide grapes that are shaped by the combination of granite and weathered granite soils, warm summers, and cool nights – a foundation that shows in the glass in clear fruit and lively acidity.
The winery focuses on care in the vineyard and restrained work in the cellar. Rieslings from Durbach are considered an independent type within Baden: somewhat spicier, with more pull than their counterparts from the Rhine or Mosel. Laible's Pinot Noir shows the cooler side of the region – red fruit, fine structure, no excessive use of wood.
