Wiston Cuvée Brut

An English sparkling wine that shows what the chalk soils of the South Downs can achieve: the Wiston Cuvée Brut from Wiston Estate in West Sussex combines freshness with real depth.

Wiston Estate is located on the chalk downlands south of London — geologically related to Champagne, which is immediately reflected in the style of the wines. The winery was founded to consistently exploit the potential of these chalk soils, and Chardonnay is at the center of this.

On the nose, the wine opens with baked apple pie and ripe pears, underscored by a creamy pastry note. On the palate, it shows spicy honey, a lively, well-integrated acidity, and a light salt tone that reveals its origin from the limestone. The finish is long and clearly structured — without heaviness.

Best served at 7–9 °C. Pairs with oysters, scallops with butter sauce, or a classic afternoon tea with sandwiches. It also cuts a fine figure as an aperitif — especially when you want to show that England has long belonged to the serious sparkling wine regions of Europe.
