The Kraken Black Spiced is a deep black spiced rum from the American Virgin Islands – strongly spiced, sweet and designed for direct enjoyment.
Proximo Spirits has been marketing Kraken with a deliberate wink since 2010: its black color, distinctive ceramic bottle, and tentacle motif make it one of the most famous spiced rums worldwide. The base is a molasses rum from the Virgin Islands, aged for 24 months in oak barrels, to which 14 spices are then added.
On the nose, caramel, dark chocolate, and vanilla – with distinct notes of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves underneath. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a rounded sweetness and a mildly spicy finish without any harsh edges. The black color comes from the added sugar cane syrup.
The spiciness is best enjoyed neat over ice. A classic Kraken & Cola with a slice of lime, or as the base for a Dark Stormy with ginger beer. Serving temperature: slightly chilled, 14–16 °C.
