Reserve Ancient Vine Zinfandel - Rous Vineyard

Reserve Ancient Vine Zinfandel - Rous Vineyard
A Zinfandel that literally carries history: The vines in the Rous Vineyard were planted over 112 harvests ago — old vines that root deep into the Californian soil, concentrate their energy on a few grapes, and deliver a fruit density that younger plantings can hardly reach. Ancient Vines are not a marketing term, but a biological reality: less yield, more complexity.
In the glass, the Reserve shows a lush, multi-layered bouquet of ripe blackberry, dried plum, and cloves, underscored by a hint of caramel and dark spice. On the palate, it appears balanced and dense — the tannins are ripe and velvety without being pushy, and the fruit richness remains lively despite its abundance. A subtle freshness runs through the wine and prevents it from appearing heavy or clumsy. The finish is long, warm, and generous, with lingering notes of dark fruit and a hint of spice.
Served at 16–18 °C, it unfolds its full potential. Those who leave it in the cellar for another one to two years should find even more depth and integration. At the table, it pairs well with braised beef cheeks, BBQ ribs with a smoky marinade, leg of lamb with a herb crust, or a strong Aged Cheddar.
