Redstone Shiraz

Those familiar with Australian Shiraz often expect power — the Redstone from McLaren Vale shows the more elegant side of the grape variety: fruit-forward, aromatically precise, with a smoky finish that lingers.

Coriole was founded in 1967 by Hugh and Molly Lloyd and is now run by the second generation, Mark and Paul Lloyd. The vineyards are located in the Seaview site of McLaren Vale, on iron-rich terra rossa over limestone—the very characteristic red soil that gave the wine its name. The Mediterranean climate, with warm days, cool nights, and dry summers, contributes concentrated fruit and a fresh structure.

In the glass, aromas of clove, red currant, and ripe plum are revealed, rounded off by a subtle hint of oak. The wine is dense and fruit-laden without feeling heavy—the tannins only appear in the finish, smoky and firm, with a pleasantly long aftertaste.

Pairs well with herb-crusted lamb loin, grilled beef steak, or spicy hard cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinkable now, but will keep for several years.
