Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Rosso Superiore 0.75L

The Bolgheri Rosso Superiore from Ornellaia is the "little brother" of the great Ornellaia flagship — more accessible in style, but with the same craftsmanship in the background. Cabernet Franc forms the backbone of this cuvée, supplemented by the classic Bordeaux varieties that Ornellaia has mastered for decades.

The winery is located in the heart of Bolgheri, that coastal strip of Tuscany that offers ideal conditions for late-ripening red varieties due to the Mediterranean climate and well-drained soils. Since its founding in 1981, Ornellaia has been one of the reference points for the so-called Supertuscans — wines that emerged outside the traditional Sangiovese canon and have changed the perception of Italian red wines internationally.

In the glass, it shows a dense ruby red. The nose opens with blackberry, cassis, and a hint of red bell pepper — a typical Cabernet Franc profile that is complemented by spicy herbal notes (thyme, bay leaf). On the palate, medium to full body, velvety tannins, and a fresh acidity structure that gives the wine tension. The finish is long, with a slight hint of dark chocolate.

Pairs well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, lamb shank with rosemary, or ripe Pecorino. Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C.
