Neipperger Schlossberg Lemberger *** GG QW Württemberg - Great Growth 0.75L
The Schlossberg in Neipperg is considered one of the most important sites in Württemberg for Lemberger — steep, south-facing, with deep Keuper marl soils that give the wine structure and minerality. The Graf Neipperg winery has been managing this site for generations and brings its claim to the point with its Großes Gewächs: maximum site expression, artisanal care.
In the glass, the Lemberger shows dark ruby red with violet reflections. The nose opens with blackberry, black cherry, and a hint of violets, underneath a spicy note of pepper and leather. On the palate, dense but well-integrated tannins, a lively acid structure, and a long, slightly smoky finish — typical for a Schlossberg Lemberger with substance. The 18-month barrique aging in new and used barrels adds a subtle cedar note without overpowering the fruit.
It is best served at 16–18 °C with wild boar goulash, braised leg of lamb, or a mature hard cheese like Allgäuer Bergkäse. It also pairs well with a hearty lentil stew with sausages — the Swabian classic.
