Nebbiolo d'Alba

Nebbiolo without the Barolo price tag: Faletto gets a more accessible, yet characterful wine out of the grape variety that made Piedmont famous.

The Faletto winery is located in the heart of Piedmont, not far from the great Barolo and Barbaresco vineyards. The Nebbiolo d'Alba grows on the hilly Leith soils around Alba – sandier than the calcareous marl soils of Serralunga, which gives the wine earlier drinking maturity and somewhat softer contours, without denying its Piedmontese essence.

In the glass, it displays the typical garnet red color with an orange rim that Nebbiolo develops after just a few years. The nose offers sour cherry, dried rose, and a hint of tar – the classic Nebbiolo signature. On the palate, noticeable but ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a finish with a subtle spiciness of anise and licorice.

Recommendation: Serve at 16–18 °C, ideally decant an hour beforehand. Pairs well with Brasato al Barolo, venison ragù with pappardelle, or a robust Taleggio. Ready to drink now, but will keep until 2028.
