A Rioja Crianza that shows why Tempranillo has been at home in this region for generations: fruity and spicy, with a soft structure and a finish that lingers longer than expected.
Bodegas Montecillo is one of the classic houses of the DOCa Rioja – founded in 1874, now part of the Osborne Group, with cellars in Navarrete (Rioja Alta). The Crianza matures for six months in French oak before waiting in the bottle for at least another year. The result is a typical representative of the modern Rioja school: fruit-forward, but with a clear influence of wood.
In the glass, it shows aromas of sour cherry and ripe blackberries, plus vanilla and a hint of liquorice from the barrel aging. Soft and medium-bodied on the palate, the tannins are well integrated, the acidity pleasantly present. Balsamic note on the finish, overall round and accessible.
Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs with rack of lamb with rosemary, chorizo, aged Manchego or pasta with a rich tomato sauce. Ready to drink now, will keep until 2027.

The Bodega
Bodegas Montecillo – one of the wineries that established the reputation of Rioja. Since 1874, the oldest winery in Rioja Alta has focused on barrel-aged red wines.
“This is a responsibility and a challenge,” says chief oenologist María Martínez. “I want to preserve the values of Rioja without making the same wine as our parents and grandparents.”
Her path: Tempranillo, old vines, late hand-harvesting. The result: wines full of fruit and elegance – Rioja that is just as exciting today as it was in the past.
