Montecillo Rioja Crianza DOCa

Montecillo Rioja Crianza DOCa
A Rioja Crianza that shows why Tempranillo has been at home in this region for generations: fruity and spicy, with a soft structure and a finish that lingers longer than expected.
Bodegas Montecillo is one of the classic wineries of the DOCa Rioja – founded in 1874, now part of the Osborne Group, with cellars in Navarrete (Rioja Alta). The Crianza matures for six months in French oak before at least another year of bottle aging. The result is a typical example of the modern Rioja style: fruit-forward, but with a distinct oak influence.
In the glass, it displays aromas of sour cherry and ripe blackberries, along with vanilla and a hint of licorice from the barrel aging. On the palate, it is soft and medium-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and pleasantly present acidity. A balsamic note lingers on the finish, resulting in a well-rounded and approachable wine. The 2019 vintage was awarded a Mundus Vini Gold Medal.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with lamb loin with rosemary, chorizo, aged Manchego cheese, or pasta with a robust tomato sauce. Ready to drink now, will keep until 2027.

Bodegas Montecillo – one of the wineries that established Rioja's reputation. Since 1874, the oldest winery in the Rioja Alta has focused on barrel-aged red wines. "That's a responsibility and a challenge," says head winemaker María Martínez. "I want to preserve the values of Rioja without making the same wine as our parents and grandparents." Her approach: Tempranillo, old vines, late hand-harvesting. The result: wines full of fruit and elegance – Rioja that inspires today just as much as it always has.
