Mönchberg Spätburgunder GG Großes Gewächs, QW dry 0.75L
The Mönchberg is one of the defining steep slopes of the Ahr — and the Pinot Noir that grows here shows why this region is mentioned in the same breath as Burgundy. A small-berried clone, whose roots have reached deep into the slate of this site for decades, provides the foundation for this Großes Gewächs from the Deutzerhof winery.
The Deutzerhof winery is one of the most renowned addresses on the Ahr. The sites around Mayschoss are cultivated with consistent craftsmanship — the Großes Gewächs from the Mönchberg matures in 228-liter French oak barrels. On the nose, it shows dark cherry, blackberry, and fine spice, underscored by a mineral slate note that clearly marks its origin. On the palate, medium to full body, velvety tannins, lively acidity, and a long, earthy finish.
It is best served at 16–18 °C — with venison fillet with red cabbage, roasted duck breast, or a ripe Époisses. Those who give it some time in the decanter will be rewarded with additional depth.
