Mas de la Rosa in HK Torres Miguel Torres
The Mas de la Rosa is Miguel Torres' answer to the question of what old Garnacha vines from the Priorat can achieve if you give them time and peace. Not a show wine — but a quiet, deep red wine with real backbone.
The Torres winery from the Catalan Penedès is one of the defining houses of Spanish wine history. With the Mas de la Rosa, the focus is on the Priorat: there, the vines have been growing for over 80 years on llicorella — the black slate that gives the Priorat its mineral foundation. Low yields, deep roots, concentrated fruit.
In the glass, it shows dark blackberry and plum, underscored by graphite and a hint of dried herbs. The tannin is ripe and fine-grained, the oak integrated, the acidity lively without being intrusive. The finish is long and mineral — typical Priorat.
- Food: Lamb shank with rosemary, wild boar ragout, aged Manchego
