Pignacolus

Pignolo is one of Friuli's oldest grape varieties – and one of the rarest. Jermann brings it back from the place that almost made it forgotten and shows what it's capable of: a red wine with depth, structure, and a clear commitment to its origin.

The Jermann winery in the Collio Orientale del Friuli has been dedicated to reviving indigenous grape varieties for decades. The Pignacolusse – named after the Pignolo variety (whose grape resembles a pine cone) and the cadastral parcel name Colusse – continues this work consistently. The wine is only released three years after the harvest.

In the glass, it appears dark and dense. Dried plum, carob, and leather form the aromatic backbone, followed by cocoa and a hint of coffee. On the palate, it is powerful and firm: plenty of tannins, which, however, do not come across as harsh, but rather are supported by the long aging period. Long, spicy finish.

  • Food pairing: Roast venison, braised beef, mature pecorino cheese
  • Temperature: 17–18 °C, ideally opened one hour beforehand
  • Drinking window: now until at least 8 years after harvest

Jermann

Jermann from Friuli is no ordinary winery. It's the life's work of a visionary: Silvio Jermann has transformed a family business into one of Italy's most renowned wineries – producing wines that linger in the memory. On 170 hectares of vineyards in northeastern Italy, wines like the legendary Vintage Tunina and Dreams are created – wines that showcase the true potential of Friuli. Fresh, profound, with an elegance that unfolds only in the glass. What drives Jermann? A deep connection with the land. No spectacle, no trends – just honest craftsmanship, palpable in every sip.
