Petit Clos

The Petit Clos Cahors AOC is the approachable "pleasure wine" from Jean-Luc Baldès, the seventh-generation winemaker of the legendary Clos Triguedina in Vire-sur-Lot – one of the founding families of the appellation since 1830. The blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot comes from the second terrace of the 70-hectare estate, situated on calcareous clay soils directly above the meanders of the Lot Valley, where Malbec develops its fruity intensity and Merlot contributes roundness and juiciness. The winery is HVE-certified (Haute Valeur Environnementale) – a commitment to environmental responsibility.

In the glass, it displays a rich, dark purple-red color. The nose is fresh and inviting with expressive aromas of cherry, blueberry, blackberry, and plum, complemented by a hint of licorice and delicate spice notes of gingerbread and black tea. On the palate, it is juicy, round, and balanced – with the density and length of Malbec, perfectly combined with the fruitiness and softness of Merlot, and a fresh, invigorating finish.

Spontaneous fermentation in large wooden vats at controlled temperatures, followed by a short maturation in stainless steel tanks and barrels – deliberately without heavy barrique wood to preserve the purity of the fruit. Served at 13.5% ABV, ideally between 15–17°C. An uncomplicated, everyday wine perfect with charcuterie, grilled beef steak, duck breast, and strong cheeses – fresh, honest, and irresistibly refreshing.
