Istante Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

The Istante from Franz Haas is a dry red wine from South Tyrol that combines structure and elegance. It bears the designation of origin Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT and stands for the alpine, cooler side of Italian red wines.

The Franz Haas winery is located in Montan in the South Tyrolean lowlands and is one of the well-known names in the region. For the Istante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc come together, a Bordeaux-style cuvée with a South Tyrolean signature.

It shows a deep ruby red in the glass. On the nose, black cherry and plum meet cinnamon, vanilla, and a trace of leather. It feels powerful on the palate, but not heavy: velvety tannins, a fresh acidity as a counterpart, and a long finish with mineral drive and a hint of tobacco.

Recommendation: Leg of lamb with rosemary, braised beef cheeks, or aged mountain cheese. Serve it at 16 to 18 °C and open the bottle half an hour beforehand so the aromas can unfold.
