Gusbourne Fifty One Degrees North Protected Designation of Origin - Kent & Sussex 0.75L
Fifty One Degrees North — the name says it all: at the 51st parallel, in the vineyards of Kent and Sussex, Chardonnay ripens under the English sky into a sparkling wine with true independence. Gusbourne Estate is one of the most well-known addresses in English viticulture and has specialized in classic sparkling wines that can be measured against Burgundian standards.
In the glass, it shows a light gold color with a fine, persistent perlage. The nose brings citrus zest, green apple, and a subtle brioche note, as is typical for yeast-aged Chardonnay. On the palate, the wine is tightly structured, with lively acidity and a long, mineral finish — a profile owed to the cool, chalky, and clay-rich terroir of England's south coast.
Served at 7–9 °C, it works just as well as an aperitif as it does with scallops with lemon butter, smoked salmon, or a mild goat cheese. Anyone who does not yet know English sparkling wine will get a convincing introduction here.
