Grasovka Polish vodka
Grasovka is a Polish vodka with a clear brand identifier: Each bottle contains a stalk of bison grass ( Hierochloe odorata ), which gives the distillate its characteristic taste.
The grass grows in the forests of eastern Poland and is added to the finished spirit. The coumarin it contains gives it the characteristic note, reminiscent of woodruff, freshly cut hay, and a hint of vanilla – milder and more aromatic than a neutral grain vodka. The alcohol content is a classic 40% ABV.
In the glass, Grasovka displays a light yellowish-golden color. The nose offers fresh herbs, woodruff, and a hint of sweet vanilla. On the palate, it is soft and oily, with a mild spiciness in the finish.
The classic serve: Tatanka – equal parts Grasovka and cloudy apple juice, briefly stirred and served over ice. Alternatively, it can be used as a base for sparkling wine cocktails, as suggested by the peach recipe described in the product text. If enjoying it neat, serve well chilled at around 4–6 °C.

How does the Grasovka taste – is it really vodka?
Yes, but not a neutral one. The infused bison grass gives it a distinctly aromatic note: woodruff, freshly mown hay, a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it feels soft and slightly oily, the finish is mildly spicy – significantly more characterful than a classic grain vodka.
What is the Tatanka cocktail that I read about everywhere?
Equal parts Grasovka and cloudy apple juice, stirred briefly, served over ice. The sweetness of the apple juice pairs well with the woodruff note of the grass. Simple, fast, works.
Can I also drink it neat?
Well chilled at about 4–6 °C, it makes the most sense neat. The cold dampens the alcohol and lifts the herbal aromas – similar to what is common with a Polish Żubrówka-style vodka.
What does it pair with as a cocktail base besides apple juice?
The vanilla and woodruff note harmonizes with sparkling wine or Prosecco. Combinations with peach also work well – the fruity sweetness picks up on the aromatic side of the grass.
How long does an opened bottle last?
Stored cool and away from light, Grasovka remains stable for several months even after opening. Due to the bison grass blade, aromas can change slightly – best to consume within a few weeks of opening.
The bottle has 500 ml – is that a standard format?
No, the 0.5-l bottle is smaller than the usual 0.7-l bottle. Practical for a first test or as a gift, but also enough for several rounds of cocktails.
