Contrada Sciaranuova Etna Rosso Tenuta Tascante DOC Sicily 0.75L
The Contrada Sciaranuova comes from one of Sicily's most fascinating vineyards: the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, where Nerello Mascalese grows in old vines on mineral-rich lava soil. Tenuta Tascante, the Etna offshoot of the traditional Sicilian house Tasca d'Almerita, focuses on individual Contrade — named plots with their own character, comparable to the Burgundy principle of single vineyards.
The 2020 vintage brought special conditions to Sicily: a dry, warm spring was followed by a cool, rainy summer. The late harvest between October 14th and 30th allowed for a slow, even ripening — the foundation for structure and freshness in the glass. On the nose, the wine shows dark cherry, pomegranate, and a distinct volcanic mineral in the background, which is typical for Etna red wines. On the palate, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a long, slightly salty finish.
Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs with lamb chops with herb crust, grilled tuna, or Sicilian caponata with smoked ricotta.
