Clos du Clocher 2020 from Pomerol: a Merlot with dark fruit, earthy depth, and a structure that takes up space without feeling heavy.

Pomerol is the small appellation area on the right bank of Bordeaux. On clay and gravel soils, Merlot plays the leading role, and wines are created that combine fullness and freshness. The Clos du Clocher, whose name refers to the bell tower, continues this line.

On the nose, crushed blueberries, boysenberries, and black cherries, plus a hint of wild strawberries. Clove and cedar wood lay a spicy layer over it. On the palate, the wine feels rich and dense; the fruit is balanced by earthy nuances.

Serve it at 16–18 °C, ideally decanted an hour beforehand. It pairs well with duck breast, rack of lamb with rosemary, or aged hard cheese and for a long Sunday meal with guests.
