Château Tour Bayard AOC Montagne Saint-Emilion

Montagne Saint-Emilion is located just a few kilometers north of the famous Saint-Emilion plateau — and produces wines that use the same clay-mineral soils and the same Atlantic-influenced climate, but often with more down-to-earthiness than the big names of the appellation. The Château Tour Bayard shows exactly that: a cuvée that speaks terroir without bending itself.

Julien Richard runs the family winery in the third generation. On about 10 hectares, the family works with a lot of manual labor, without herbicides and exclusively with natural fertilizer — not as a marketing promise, but because they are convinced that healthy soil is the foundation for expressive wines. Merlot dominates the cuvée and brings aromas of red plum and blackberry, while Cabernet Franc contributes structure and a spicy, slightly peppery pull.

In the glass, it shows a medium to full body with soft, ripe tannins and a fresh line of acidity that keeps the finish lively. The fruit remains present without appearing sweet — typical for the appellation, which combines power and elegance. Recommendation: 16–17 °C, with leg of lamb with thyme, a braised beef roast or mature Cantal.
