Château Léoville Las Cases Saint-Julien AOP, 2ème Cru Classé
Léoville Las Cases is one of the great addresses in Saint-Julien – and the 2021 vintage shows why the winery has been considered an unofficial Premier Cru for decades.
The château is located in the north of the appellation, right on the border with Pauillac. The soils, composed of deep gravel over limestone, give the wine its characteristic minerality and coolness. Since the Delon family took over, they have consistently focused on strict yield reduction and precise selection – only the best parcels end up in the Grand Vin.
In the glass, the 2021 vintage displays a dark ruby red color with a violet rim. The nose offers blackberry, cassis, and dried violets, underpinned by cedarwood and a hint of graphite. On the palate, dense, silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral finish – typical of the cool, precise style of the 2021 vintage.
Serving suggestion: Decant now (at least 2 hours) or store until 2038+. Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with braised leg of lamb, entrecôte with herb butter, or mature Comté cheese.
