Chateau Lafon Rochet Saint-Estephe

An incredibly dense, dark, spicy nose, Cabernet-oriented, with plenty of sweet, delicate cassis, but also rich licorice and violets. Only very slowly do blackberry, mulberry, and a good touch of black cherry emerge. The anticipated surge of extract on the palate failed to materialize; the winemakers have clearly learned a great deal in recent years. The wine continues with ultra-fine detail. Now cassis, blackberry, and even more black cherry appear on the palate. Very refined, yet beautifully fleshy, with delicate licorice, bay leaf, and black olive. Drinking window: 2020-2045. Chateau Lafon Rochet

Michel Tesseron, twin brother of Château Pontet-Canet owner Alfred Tesseron, is also converting to biodynamic farming. Jerome Tesseron's sister, Melanie, now runs the Pontet-Canet estate. Both wineries originally belonged to their father, Guy Tesseron, who purchased Pontet from the renowned Cruse family of wine merchants. Jacques Boissenot, the Médoc's superstar consultant, advises Lafon Rochet.
