Château de Chamirey Mercurey rouge Devillard

Mercurey is the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise – and Château de Chamirey is one of the most well-known addresses in this appellation. The Devillard family has managed the estate since the 1980s and has developed it into one of the leading operations in southern Burgundy. The vineyards lie on clay-limestone soil, which gives the Pinot Noir an earthy depth that you might get more expensively in the great Côte de Nuits sites, but not necessarily better.

In the glass, the Mercurey rouge shows a deep ruby red. On the nose, sour cherry and blackberry, underscored by a hint of undergrowth and clove. On the palate, medium body, velvety tannins, and a lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh and drinkable. The finish is pleasantly long with a light wood note – typical for Burgundian aging in oak barrels.
