Château Chasse Spleen Moulis
Chasse-Spleen is one of the most famous Crus from Moulis-en-Médoc — an appellation west of Margaux that stands for structured, age-worthy red wines with their own character. The name goes back to a legend involving Lord Byron: a glass of this wine is said to have dispelled his melancholy.
The 2014 vintage benefited in the Médoc from a warm, dry autumn after a changeable summer — the wines show good concentration with lively acidity. In the glass, a powerful ruby red with violet reflections.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, cedarwood, and tobacco, underneath a hint of violets. On the palate, ripe, dense tannins join with a vanilla note from the barrique aging — typical for the style of the Château. The finish is long, with fine spice aromas and good structure.
- Temperature: 17–18 °C, ideally decant 30–45 minutes
- Food: Rack of lamb with herb crust, beef fillet, mature Comté

The Domaine
Médoc with history. The best plots on the gravel ridge of Grand Poujeaux fell to the family through inheritance – but only after the 1855 classification. In 1932, the estate was elevated to Grand Cru Exceptionnel, one of only five.
The vineyards are located near Arcins, on fossilized starfish limestone, perfectly permeable to water. Spring rain, dry summers – the classic Médoc grapes are used to these extremes. The result: magnificent wines.
In addition to the main wine, there are second wines and a white wine made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Chasse Spleen – a name with character.
