Château Calon-Ségur Le Saint-Estèphe de Calon-Ségur
The entry into the world of Calon-Ségur: fruity, accessible, and yet with the typical character of Saint-Estèphe — structured, spicy, with real depth.
Château Calon-Ségur is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc and is located in the northernmost part of Saint-Estèphe. The winery, already shaped in the 18th century by Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, was taken over by the insurance group Suravenir in 2012 and has been extensively modernized since then. Le Saint-Estèphe de Calon-Ségur — formerly known as La Chapelle de Calon, and under this name since 2019 — is the estate's third wine and comes predominantly from the property's younger vines.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color. The nose opens with blackberry and plum, plus bay leaf, violets, and a soft hint of licorice. On the palate, medium body, soft tannins, and a fresh acidity structure that keeps the finish lively. Not a heavyweight — but a wine with attitude.
- Grape varieties: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon
- Serving temperature: 16–18 °C
Pairs well with leg of lamb with herbs de Provence, entrecôte, or a strong beef pot roast. Also a good choice as a companion to mature Comté or Ossau-Iraty.

Château Calon-Ségur literally wears its heart on its label – and has done so for centuries. The iconic heart adorning the bottle of this Grand Cru from Saint-Estèphe is not a marketing ploy, but a genuine declaration: The Marquis de Ségur is said to have once remarked that although he made wine in Lafite and Latour, his heart belonged to Calon.
This is still evident today. The wines of this exceptional Bordeaux estate combine power and elegance in a way that is unparalleled among the Médoc classifications – deeply fruity, complex, and with a longevity that rewards patience.
