Château Bélair-Monange Premier Grand Cru Classé 0.75L
Château Bélair-Monange is one of the few addresses on the plateau of Saint-Émilion that can be associated with the term terroir wine without exaggeration. The winery is located right next to Château Ausone on the limestone-rich high plateau — a location that drives Cabernet Franc to unusual minerality and finesse, far removed from the opulence of some Merlot-dominated neighbors. Since the takeover by the Moueix family, there has been a consistent focus on quality in the vineyard.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red. The nose opens with Morello cherry, cassis, and blackberry, behind which are floral tones — violet, a hint of dried rose — as well as a subtle mineral vein that reminds one of damp limestone. On the palate, the wine appears precise and taut: fine, silky tannins, lively acidity, long finish with a spicy, slightly tobacco-like note.
Serving temperature 16–17 °C. At the table, it pairs with saddle of lamb with a herb crust, entrecôte with shallot jus, or ripe Comté. Anyone opening it as an aperitif should decant it at least an hour before drinking — this gives the wine the time it needs to fully unfold.
