The Chapelle d'Ausone is the second wine of Château Ausone – one of the two Premier Grand Cru Classé A in Saint-Émilion and thus part of the absolute top class of the Bordeaux region. What does not go into the assemblage for the great wine flows in here: grapes from the same limestone and clay-marl soils on which Ausone has been growing Cabernet Franc and Merlot for centuries.

In the glass, a deep dark ruby red appears. The nose opens with blackberry and black cherry, plus violets and a mineral undertone that is typical for the limestone soils of Saint-Émilion. On the palate, it presents itself tightly structured, with velvety tannins and a clear, fresh acidity line – the Cabernet Franc gives the wine contour and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Good with it: rack of lamb with herb crust, entrecôte, or ripe Mimolette. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Those who know and love Ausone will find its DNA here in a more accessible framework – without compromises on origin.
