Caro

Caro is a high-quality red wine from Mendoza, Argentina , produced through a collaboration between the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and Catena families. The name is derived from the first letters of both names: CA tena and RO thschild.

The wine is a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon , the proportions of which vary slightly from vintage to vintage; Malbec is usually between 60–80%, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards in the Uco Valley and other regions of Mendoza, where significant temperature differences between day and night ensure intense yet balanced ripening.

Caro displays a deep ruby ​​red color with violet reflections. The nose is rich and complex with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, a touch of licorice, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and delicate spices, along with subtle notes of cedar and herbs. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet elegant, with firm, finely textured tannins, crisp acidity, and a long, harmonious finish.

The wine is aged for several months in French oak barrels, sometimes followed by aging in large foudres, which gives it depth without overpowering oak. It is ideally served at 16–18 °C, lightly decanted, and pairs well with steak, grilled beef, game, braised dishes, or strong cheeses. Caro embodies the fusion of South American Malbec identity with European Bordeaux elegance.
