Bosco del Merlo Merlot Riserva Campo Camino DOC Venezia

A single-varietal Merlot from the DOC Venezia that shows what Northeast Italy can do with this grape variety: dark fruit, subtle spice, and a body that deserves Riserva level.

Bosco del Merlo is located in the Piave area between Venezia and the Dolomites — a region where clay-rich soils and the moderate climate near the Adriatic particularly benefit Merlot. The winery has specialized in autochthonous and classic varieties of this zone for decades and is one of the established addresses in the Venetian DOC area. The Campo Camino is the house's Riserva line: longer aging, selective harvest, aging in wooden barrels.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, blackberry and plum, underpinned by black pepper and a hint of tobacco — typical for Merlot from cool-influenced sites. On the palate, medium to full body, velvety tannin without coarseness, lively acidity that gives the wine structure. The finish is long, with notes of black currant and a light cedar wood note from barrel aging.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised beef shoulder, duck breast with balsamic reduction, or medium-aged hard cheeses like Asiago d'Allevo. Also a safe choice for hearty pasta dishes with ragù.
